Drewry, a research and consulting service provider in the maritime and shipping industry, offers a snapshot of canceled sailings versus the number of scheduled sailings during week 37 (12-18 September) - 41 (10-16 October).
According to the weekly analysis from Drewry, there has been 94 canceled sailings announced across the major shipping routes (Transpacific, Transatlantic, and Asia-North Europe & Med) out of a total of 748 scheduled sailings. The cancellation rate stands at 13%.
During week 37-41, 2M has announced 31 canceled sailings, THE Alliance with 26.5, and Ocean Alliance 21.5. And up to 64% of blank sailings will take place in the Transpacific Eastbound, 23% on Asia-North Europe, and 13% on the Transatlantic Westbound trade.
It is advisable that shippers and BCOs pay special attention to events that may result in unwanted delays. The strike actions threaten ports in the US, the UK, and Europe. The possible lockdown measures in key ports in China have certain effects. All the above may suspend logistics operations, adding to the disruptions in the global supply chain.
