Introduction of Victoria Harbour Port (HKVIC)

Victoria Harbour (Port of Victoria, HK) is abbreviated as Victoria Harbour. It is a harbour located between Hong Kong Island in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the Kowloon Peninsula. One of the three great natural harbors in the world. As the harbor is wide and deep, it is a natural and good harbor, and Hong Kong is also known as the "Pearl of the Orient" and the "Three Night Views in the World".

Port facilities

Victoria Harbour is home to most of Hong Kong’s port facilities, making Hong Kong the busiest port in the world. An average of 220,000 ships arrive at the port every year, including cargo ships and passenger ships and river ships. The Kwai Chung Container Terminal in the west of the port is the main container handling facility, which operates around the clock. In 2004, the port handled 62% of 21,930 TEUs of standard container units every day. About 400 container ships provide services to Hong Kong every week, connecting to more than 500 destinations in the world.

Up to 2004, Hong Kong handled the most containers (measured in standard container units). In recent years, it has been adjacent to the competition from Shenzhen Port. Since August 2004, Shenzhen Port has handled more containers than Kwai Chung Wharf. In general, the Hong Kong port has also lost to the Singapore port, and the number of containers handled by the Singapore port has broken through Hong Kong since the first quarter of 2005.
