The port of Viana do Castelo (Port Code: PTVDC) is a medium-sized port situated on the mouth of the River Lima. Its port installations are found on both river banks, 49km northern of the port of Leixoes. The port is an Atlantic port in the far north of Portugal, less than 20km from the Spanish border. The port is serving the fishing industry and has good facilities for general cargo and containers in the commercial sector. It has an important shipbuilding and ship repair industry. There is a terminal for Ro-Ro traffic. The main exports are paper, timber and granite. Main imports are African wood, steel sheet, fish, machinery and bulk cement. Approximately 1,007,474t of cargo are handled annually.
