Shibushi port (Port Code:JPSBS) is a thriving port engaged in trade with foreign powers. It is situated in the southern part of Kyushu, on the northern shore of Shibushi Bay. Approx 75 ocean going vessels visit the port annually. Trade with foreign countries had been carried out since ancient times, and even in the Edo Period (1603-1867), many merchants made good profit by smuggling. An active volcano-- Sakurajima located in the middle of the Kagoshima (Kinko) Bay. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan, and smokes constantly. (100 mins by car from Shibushi Port).
