Port of Puerto Barrios is a city in Guatemala and the capital of Izabal Province. It is located in the eastern part of the country, 297 kilometers from the capital Guatemala City. It was built in 1895 and covers an area of 1,292 square kilometers. , An altitude of 3 meters, and a population of 40,900 in 2003.

It is the terminus of the CA9 highway, starting from the Pacific port city of San Jose and passing through the country of Guatemala City.
The population of this city is mainly of African descent, Guatemalan, Maya, Afro-Caribbean (such as Afro-Jamaica) and West Indian groups. Its heyday was in the 19th and early 20th centuries. With the construction of a railway connecting a large banana and coffee plantation with a shipping terminal, it was all controlled by the Central American International Railway Corporation and the Great White Fleet, both of which were owned by United Fruit the company.
The Barrios Islands are divided by many communities or Barrios, such as El Rastros, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Ramstein, La Victoria, La Serres, Lat and Ayre. Although the town is small, due to the nature of its harbour, many of its visitors are ship crews, often in the nightlife entertainment center throughout the town.
Puerto Barrios is beginning to attract more tourists in the new century, because the nearby town of Santo Tomas Castilla has begun to accept cruise ships. Puerto Barrios Airport has been refurbished in order to receive scheduled flights.
Many nearby tourist attractions include the Mayan ruins of Quirigua. The Castillo Felipe Lara, an ancient Spanish fortress Rio Dulce, guards the entrance to Lake Izabal. Another tourist hotspot is the lively town of Livingstone where the Garifuna culture can be experienced, with pontoon and Yankunu dances.

Puerto Barrios (Port Code: GTPBR) is a port situated at the eastern side of the entrance to Santo Tomas Bay, in the Bay of Amatique at the head of the Caribbean Gulf of Honduras. The port has one pier with 7 berths and has facilities for handling bananas, grain, fertilisers and oil. The breakwater concrete pier handles containerized cargo, general cargo, liquid bulk and dry bulk cargo. The types of ships which can moor are: cruise ships, container ships, tankers, barges, general cargo ship, roll on-roll off cargo. In 2013, 490 vessels visited the port and 201,121 TEUs were handled.
