Port Ngqura (port code: ZANGQ), also known as Port Coega, is a medium-sized deep water port in South Africa. It is situated 20 kilometers northeast of Port Elizabeth, at the mouth of the Coega River.
The port, now open for container and general cargo operations, is being developed to become South Africa's largest port, which will provide container, LNG, bulk and break bulk cargo handling capacity, and support the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ). The port has an entrance channel of 18.0m depth and 16.0m at the berths. The port will serve as a transhipment centre for Johannesburg.
For container vessels, the port offers an LOA of 305m, a maximum draught of 14m and a maximum deadweight of 70,000t. While for dry cargo vessels, the LOA is 250m, the maximum draught is 14m and the maximum deadweight is 80,000t. The types of vessels regularly visiting the port are cargo vessel (74%) and tanker (15%).
