      Port on the south coast of Jamaica. The maximum draught is 10.97 meters and the loading density of water is 1025. The average variation of tidal range is 0.30 m, and northeast wind prevails. The pilot station shall be informed by telegram 48 hours before the arrival of the compulsory pilot ship. Before 24 hours, the port authority must be informed of the estimated time of arrival of the ship, and the VHF channels 16, 6 and 2 should be contacted by the communication radio, and the crew should be on duty 24 hours a day. The dredged channel is nearly 2.4km long, with the shallowest water depth of 11.9m. The wharf is located at the inner end of the harbor basin and can berth 198 meters long ships with a maximum draft of 10.9 meters. Three anchorages can be obtained. The berth gives priority to bulk aluminum, but when the berth is free, it can also be used for loading and unloading of general cargo ships and other ships for loading and unloading of fuel oil and caustic solution. Port Esquivel (Port Code: JMPES) is a port located near Old Harbour in St Catherine at the head of Portland Bight on the southern coast of Jamaica. The port has a concrete and steel pier which can load 35,560t of alumina in a turn-around time of 38 hours. It provides berthing for two vessels at a time, one handling Alcan's alumina shipments, the other utilised for general cargo. Molasses are shipped from this port and the JPS electric power station supplied with fuel via hoses from either berth. Approximately 2,500,000t of cargo are handled by the port annually.
