Port of Nouakchott (Port Code:MRNKC) is advantageously located at the crossroads of the routes connecting Africa, Europe and America, and is one of the leading public commercial ports in the south Sahara for ships sailing from Europe. Nouakchott is situated on the central west coast of Mauritania. The port comprises two quays, one for small vessels with draught less than 5.0m and the second for larger vessels with max draught of 10.3m. There is also an offshore Tanker CBM berth. Imports include wheat, cement, clinker, flour, sugar, semolina, milk, containers and general equipment. Exports include plaster, animal skins and fish. Handling performance at the Port of Nouakchott generally ranges from 1,200 to 2,500 tons/day for bagged cargo, and 3 containers/hour. Unloading accounts for 95% of traffic. The overall potential traffic capacity is 1 million tons.
