Matane (Port Code:CAMAT) is located on the south shore of the St Lawrence River, approx 400km east of Quebec City. The harbour is enclosed between 2 breakwaters, which extend approx 0.5nm offshore. The port comprises several marine installations under different ownership. The Commercial wharf area, which includes Berth 1, West breakwater and spur wharf, are owned by Transport Canada. Transport Quebec owns the East breakwater and marshalling yard. The spur wharf is used to moor laid up and overwintering vessels. Quebec Port Terminals Inc. operate Berth 1. The main cargoes handled include, oil products, calcium, lumber and paper products.
The port of Matane comprises several marine installations owned by different entities. Transport Canada owns the commercial wharf, the spur wharf and the West breakwater. The commercial wharf exports mechanical pulp (wood pulp) to international markets and imports pulp wood for local sawmills, as well as oil products, salt and general merchandise. Some vessels also use it as a service wharf. The spur wharf is used to moor laid up and overwintering vessels. Transport Québec owns the East breakwater and the marshalling yard. The west breakwater contributes to the protection of the inner structures of the port.
