Krishnapatnam Port (port code: INKRI) is a medium-sized seaport in India. It is located on the east coast of India in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 70 nautical miles north of Chennai.
The port has two container berths, with a total length of 650 meters, capable of handling two container vessels with draughts of up to 13.5 meters simultaneously. It is currently under private development as a major deep-water port. With the completion of the first phase, it has four berths, two to handle coal and one for iron ore and one for general cargo. The current depth is 17 meters alongside.
The port is being developed for handling vessels up to 200,000DWT alongside. On completion of the third and final phase of expansion and development, the port will have a total of 41 berths with quay length of 12.5 kilometers and a deep draught of 19.0 meters. It will be well equipped to handle both dry cargo and liquid bulk cargo.
Currently, the port deals primarily with dry bulk cargoes, exporting iron ore, barite, rice and maize, and importing coal and fertiliser. Breakbulk commodities handled include granite and soon scrap metal, and liquid bulk cargoes handled include edible oils such as crude palm oil and soya.
The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for about 75%; tankers, taking up around 15%; and dredging vessels, taking a proportion of 9%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 306 meters. The maximum draught is 15.9 meters. The maximum deadweight is 206,331t.
