Port of General Santos (port code: PHGSA / PHGES), alternatively known as Makar port, is a medium-sized port in Philippines. It is located on the north shore of Sarangani Bay, in the south of Mindanao Island, approximately 2 kilometers from General Santos City.
Incorporating the facilities required for handling the accommodation of general and bulk cargo (liquid/solid) vessels, break bulk vessels, Ro-Ro's and container ships, the port is considered to be the Philippines first modern port.
The port handles approximately 2,700,000t of cargo and 116,000TEU annually. Fruit, fruit juices, vegetables, cut flowers, copra, coconut oil, tuna fish and other marine products are among the leading exports. Livestock is also handled.
Each year about 1,420 vessels and 162,000 passengers visit the port. Around 89% of the vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 225 meters. The maximum draught is 11 meters. The maximum deadweight is 55,845t.
