Drogheda port (port code: IEDRO) is one of Ireland’s most important multi-modal ports. Situated on the River Boyne, 4.5 miles from the sea and about 56 kilometers north of Dublin Port, it is of international and national regional importance, providing relief to Dublin port.
The port has two facilities for handling cargoes: the inner north quays and the Tom Roes Point Terminal. About seven kilometers from the sea, the inner north quay port handles general cargoes dominated by grains, timber, and steel. It contains four berths of a total 430 meters. The Tom Roes berth is 160 meters long with alongside depth of six meters. It includes about 5.7 hectares of open storage and can accommodate a single vessel of 120 meters or two 100-meter-long vessels.
The port handles more than 1 million tons of cargo and 15,400TEU annually. The main cargo handled include containers, hydrocarbons/LPG, paper, steel, timber, grain and general cargo.
Each year about 500 vessels visit this port, among which around 92% are cargo vessels and 8% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 129 meters. The maximum draught is 6.4 meters. The maximum deadweight is 7,826t.
