Cork port (port code: IEORK) is the principal port on the south coast of Ireland and the world’s second largest natural harbour. Located on the River Lee, 15 nautical miles from the sea, and close to the main shipping lanes to northern Europe, it has excellent road and rail connections with the rest of Ireland, and thus being able to distribute cargo rapidly.
The port handle approximately 8.8 million tons of cargo and 147,500TEU annually. The main exports from this port are livestock, butter, milk powder, refined and residual petroleum products, urea, ammonia and wood chips. And the principal imports include grain, feed stuffs, bananas, molasses, timber, fertilisers, magnesite, salt, manganese ore, coal, crude oil, reformer feedstock, gas, acids, manufactured fertilisers, cement, steel sheet and motor vehicles.
Each year about 2,260 vessels visit this port, among which around 63% are cargo vessels, 13% are fishing vessels and 10% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 178 meters. The maximum draught is 8.5 meters. The maximum deadweight is 30,732t.
