Constanta port (port code: ROCND), also known as Constantza port, is the principal port of Romania and the largest on the Black Sea. It is situated on the west coast of the Black Sea, approximately 179 nautical miles from the Bosporus, 85 nautical miles from the mouth of Sulina waterway through which the Danube flows into the sea, and approximately 250 kilometers east of Bucharest.
Covering an area of 3,926 hectares, the port is protected by the north and south breakwaters, with a combined length of 14.9 kilometers. The port complex consists of the old port to the north and the new port to the south. The north port is entirely operational and consists of 12 basins and 82 berths, with water depth between 7-13.5 meters and 15.5 kilometers of quay. It has specialized terminals for ores, coal, crude oil and oil products, grains, chemical products, rolled metals, containers, general cargo, platforms and warehouses. The south port is partly operational and can handle ores, coal, phosphate, containers, grain, rolled metals, bitumen, and general goods. There are 13 kilometers of quays, 70 operational berths, and platforms and warehouses.
The port handles more than 37 million tons of cargo and 648,500TEU annually. The main exports include furniture and wood products, steel products, fertilisers and chemical products, foods, textiles, glass products, cement and cars.
Each year about 14,300 vessels visit this port, among which around 66% are cargo vessels and 11% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 311 meters. The maximum draught is 15.9 meters. The maximum deadweight is 182,644t.
