Port of Mongla (Port Code: BDCHL/BDMGL), also known as Chalna Port, is the second busiest seaport of Bangladesh located in Bagerhat District in the southwestern part of the country.
Established in 1950 to serve the southwestern region of East Bengal, this port was originally known as Chalna Port. Formerly located at Chalna, about 11 miles (18 km) upstream on the Pusur River, the port has been the main seaport for the country’s western region located 48 km south of Khulna city since 1954. The port is surrounded and protected by the Sundarban mangrove forest. The port is situated at the confluence of the Pasur River and the Mongla River. It lies about 100 km (62 mi) north of the Bay of Bengal. The port’s chief exports include jute, leather, tobacco, frozen fish, and shrimp. Major imports include grain, cement, fertilizer, coal, and wood pulp. Pop.
