Cartagena Port (port code: COCTG) is the largest and most secure harbour on the north coast of Colombia. It is located on the north shore of Cartagena Bay on the northwest coast of Colombia, bordering the Caribbean Sea, 6.4 kilometers (four miles) from Colombia's highway system and ten kilometers (6.2 miles) from the Rafael Nunez International Airport (Spanish).
Covering a total of 172.3 hectares of land area, the port comprises of the commercial port area in the north and east, with the naval base in the west. To the south is the outer harbour with a container terminal, coal terminal and several oil piers on the east coast side.
As Colombia's main container port and the third busiest port for transportation of grain, the port handless approximately 7,116,687t of cargo and 795,380TEU annually. The imports are dominated by machinery and specialized equipment, food products, cotton, toys, household appliances, and auto parts. The exports are dominated by coffee, nickel, synthetic resins, tobacco, and chemical products.
Each year about 1,400 vessels visit this port, among which around 44% are cargo vessels, 14% are sailing vessels, and 11% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 367 meters. The maximum draught is 14.9 meters. The maximum deadweight is 159,056t.
