Bridgetown Port (port code: BBBGI) is the main port serving Barbados. It is strategically located on the southeast coast of the Island of Barbados, in the Atlantic, approximately 90 nautical miles east of the chain of east Caribbean islands.
The port has extensive facilities for handling a variety of cargo. The principal imports entering this port are mineral fuel, petroleum products, manufactured goods, foodstuffs, machinery, transport equipment. The main exports leaving this port include mineral fuel and lubricants, foodstuffs and manufactured goods. The port handles approximately 1 million tons of cargo and 72,000TEU annually. Containerised cargo now represents 80% of the cargo moving through the port.
Each year about 650 vessels and 500,000 passengers visit this port. The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are cargo vessels, accounting for around 40%; and passenger vessels, taking up approximately 35%.
