ViewVágar Airport (IATA code: FAE, ICAO code: EKVG) is the only airport in the Faroe Islands, and is located 1.9 km (1.2 miles) east of the village of Sørvágur, on the island of Vágar. Due to the Faroe Islands' status as a self-governing territory, the airport is not subject to the rules of the European Union. It is the main operating base for Faroese national airline Atlantic Airways and, for a brief period during 2006, was also the base for the low-cost airline FaroeJet.
Vágar Airport has regular and daily, weekly as well as seasonal flights to neighboring countries and 10 different direct flights and connections to destinations like Copenhagen, Billund, Reykjavík, Edinburgh, Bergen, Aalborg, Barcelona, Crete, Gran Canaria and Lisbon.
The number of passengers visiting FAE reached a peak of 424,821 in 2019 with 5,649 aircraft movements. The weight of cargo handled in the same year was 1228.6 tons, slightly lower than the peak of 1605.3 tons in 2018.
