Vila Real (Port Code:PTVIR) is mainly a fishing port but is also a popular centre of tourism in the summer months. It has 340 berths with water and electricity available at the pontoons. Fuel is also available. It
is a small port located on the W bank of Rio Guadiana, 2nm NNW of the entrance, in the S part of Portugal, approx 50km E of Faro. Prior to 1991 when Guadiana International Bridge (connecting Ayamonte Spain with Castro Marim Portugal) was completed, Vila Real was the main gateway to Portugal from Andalusia (via ferries from Ayamonte, across the river). Vila Real de Santo Antonio is a port town in Algarve (southern Portugal) with total area approx 61 km2 (24 ml2) and population around 20,000.
