Thalassery port (port code:INTEL) is one of the oldest ports along the coast of Kerala with a rich history. The port was established in the year 1708 by the British East India Company. During the early days, the port had huge export trade with most of the leading European Ports like London, Rotterdam, Manchester, Marseilles, Dunkirk, Naples and Adelaide, Oakland etc. The average trade was above 4 lacs tonnes per annum. The main items of export were pepper, coffee and cardamom produced in the estates of Wynad in Kerala and Coorg in Karnataka. There is an old pier and Light House at Thalassery.
