Introduction of Norfolk Port (USORF)

Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) is located in Norfolk, Virginia, USA . It is the largest terminal of the Virginia Port Authority. It covers an area of 567 acres, has 6,630 berths, and has a water depth of 50 feet. It can handle 12,000 to 14,000 TEUs. Ships, there are 14 cranes supporting super post-Panama-class ships.

The NIT is divided into three main parts: the South Terminal (272 acres), the North Terminal (245 acres) and the Central Railway Terminal (approximately 50 acres). It has a direct rail link to the heartland corridor south of Norfolk, allowing double-track services to the Midwestern market the next day. NIT also has plenty of work and storage track space to accommodate the volume of railroads passing through Virginia.

The facility is configured for a two-span straddle carrier operation with a total static capacity of 33,000 TEU or 18,966 containers.

Thousands of daily truck transportation are handled through 17 conversion lanes and two terminal transfer areas. Future plans call for the expansion of up to 26 conversion lanes.

NIT can be carried out via Interstates 64, Insterstate 564 and Terminal Boulevard, and via railroads served by Norfolk Southern Railway, CSX Corporation and Eastern Shore Railroad.

Summary of USORF

The Port of Norfolk (Port Code:USORF) lies on the banks of the Elizabeth River in Tidewater Virginia at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Located about seven nautical miles from another Virginia Port, the Port of Newport News, it is about 150 nautical miles south of the Port of Baltimore via the Chesapeake Bay. The Port of Norfolk is part of an urban area that also contains Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads, Newport News, and Hampton. The Port of Norfolk is the site for the grave and memorial for U.S. General Douglas MacArthur.
Because the Port of Norfolk is the heart of the cultural and commercial center of a unique region called Hampton Roads, it is difficult to identify a distinct separate economic profile for the city. Shipping, shipbuilding, and light industry are important economic activities in the Port of Norfolk. The surrounding waterways, its location at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, and its protected deep-water channels make the Port of Norfolk an important trade center for goods traveling between the North American Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions as well as for international goods.
