Marsala (Port Code:ITMAR) is situated on the west coast of Sicily, approx 50nm southwest of Palermo. The harbour basin consists of two breakwaters, Molo di Ponente and Molo di Levante. The entrance width between the two is 201m, the depth 6.0m. There is a third breakwater running south for 548m from the Molo di Ponente, but the port may prove exposed to strong winds during the winter months, and often experiences the meteorological phenomenon "The Marrobbio", leading to strong currents. The principal import is wood and export is wine. The port handles approx 110 vessels, 150,000t of cargo and 500 passengers annually. Max size: Max LOA 220m; beam 50m; draught 5.6m.
