Basra Port (port code: IQBSR), also known as Basrah Port, is the largest river port in Iraq. It is located on the southwest side of the Shatt al Arab waterway in Al Basrah Reach, about 72 nautical miles away from the mouth of the Arabian River.
The port has 15 main berths and facilities for handling break bulk, containers and liquid. It can handle approximately 5 million tons of cargo annually, including oil and containers. The principal exports leaving this port are crude petroleum, dates, grain, wool, hides and skins, cotton and live animals; the chief imports entering this port include cotton piece goods, sugar, tea, machinery, electrical machinery and motor vehicles.
The types of vessels regularly calling at this port are dredging vessels, accounting for about 60%; and military vessels, taking up around 40%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 90 meters.
