Flushing port (port code: NLFIU / NLVLI), also known as Vlissingen port, is a large port in Netherlands. It is located on the north bank of the Westerschelde.
The port has two port areas. The old port, Vlissingen Town, is partly situated behind locks which permits vessels with a LOA of less than 140 meters access to the inner docks. The new port area, Flushing-East or Vlissingen-Oost, located in the deep-water area of the River Scheldt, is a tidal harbour and industrial area with direct access to the open sea. The new port entrance has a width of 350 meters and a depth of 13.8 meters. There is an LPG terminal, a coal transshipment terminal, a tanker terminal, Ro-Ro and container facilities. Shipbuilding and repair yards are available.
The port handles about 18 million tons of cargo annually, including 5.6 million tons of general cargo, 6.6 million tons of dry bulk and 4.2 million tons of liquid bulk. Principal commodities handled include breakbulk, paper, cellulose, timber, steel products, fruit, vegetables, deep frozen fruit, drinks and cars. Bulk goods handled are coal, fertilisers, gravel, minerals, ferro alloys, liquefied gases and petroleum products.
Approximately 17,000 vessels (of which 13,000 are inland vessels) visit this port annually, among which around 39% are cargo vessels, and about 30.5% are tankers. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 300 meters. The maximum draught is 16.7 meters. The maximum deadweight is 185,897t.
