Derince port (port code: TRDRC) is the main general cargo port in the Gulf of Izmit. It is situated on the north shore of the Gulf.
The port is an important port as an alternative to the port of Haydarpasa due to its proximity. It comprises the sub-port terminals of Petrol Ofisi, Shell Derince, Koruma Klor Alkali and Aktas Terminal. It offers facilities for handling break bulk, dry bulk, containers and liquid.
The port handles approximately 799,990t of dry bulk, 63,377t of bulk liquid, 499,993t of general cargo, 1,509TEU and 372,229 vehicles annually. The main imports include aluminium, logs, rubber, scrap paper, steel, iron and timber products. The principal exports are magnesite, steel, iron and general cargo.
Each year about 870 vessels visit this port, among which 25% are general cargo vessels, 16% are oil/chemical tankers, 16 are vehicle carriers and 12% are container ships. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 396 meters. The maximum draught is 13.1 meters. The maximum deadweight is 162,867t.
