Charlottetown Port (port code: CACHA) is the principal port of Prince Edward Island. It is located on the west bank of the Hillsborough River, 4 kilometers from the point at which the river joins Hillsborough Bay on Prince Edward Island.
The port has facilities for handling break bulk, dry bulk and liquid. It remains ice free from April 15 to December 31 and therefore occasional icebreaker support is required late in the season. There are a number of public and private wharves at the port.
The main imports to this port include petroleum products (about 370,000kl) and fertilizer. The exports are principally potatoes (approximate 95,000t) and fertiliser. Each year some 170 commercial vessels, ranging from 48,000-60,000GT, visit this port. The port also receives a range of cruise ships.
