Casablanca Port (port code: MACAS) is the largest port in Morocco and one of the largest artificial ports in the world. It is situated approximately 19 kilometers southwest of Mohammedia, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.
The port, covering an area of approximately 610 hectares with 7 kilometers of quays, is sheltered by two breakwaters running in a northwest and northeast direction. The warehouse area in the port area is 150,000 square meters, the phosphate storage capacity is 320,000 tons, and the container yard area is 85,000 square meters, which can store 5000 TEU.
The port enjoys intermodal connections with its hinterland and is connected to Morocco’s main cities by highway and railway. It handles approximately 26.3 million tons of cargo and 790,000TEU annually. The main export goods are phosphates, citrus, fish, lead-zinc ore and agricultural products, and the main imported goods are grain, steel, wood, cement, coal, petroleum, machinery and electronic products.
Each year about 2,400 vessels and 122,000 passengers visit this port. The type of vessels regularly calling at this port is cargo vessels, accounting for around 88%. The maximum length of the vessels recorded to having entered this port is 268 meters. The maximum draught is 12 meters. The maximum deadweight is 84,860t.
