Imbituba (Port Code:BRIBB) is situated on the south coast of Santa Catarina, southeast Brazil. The port is located inside the Bay of Imbituba with Cape Imbituba to the west. There are a total of 4 quays for cargo operations, coal is the major commodity due to the close proximity to a major mining region. Other cargoes handled include fertilisers, grain, frozen food, salt, caustic soda, Ro-Ro and petro-chemical resins. Approx 1,472,900t of cargo and 200 vessels are handled annually. Max size: LOA 200m, draught 9.5m to 10.1m (with 1m tide).
The Port of Imbituba is currently the only privately operated port in Brazil. As part of Brazil's plan to modernize its port infrastructure, it plans to invest in the Port of Imbituba and transform it into one of Brazil's most prominent ports such as the Port of Santos. As part of this initiative, the government also plans on upgrading routes that lead to the port itself such as roads and railroads, as well as integrating the various transport modes.
