Acajutla Port (port code: SVAQJ) is the most important commercial port in El Salvador. Situated in the southwest part of El Salvador, approximately 85 kilometers from the capital San Salvador, it has good road and rail connections with the rest of the country.
The port’s multipurpose wharf A is 321 meters long with alongside depths from 8.84 meters to 10.36 meters. It contains a cargo-handling area of 11.6 thousand square meters. The port’s wharf B specializes in handling solid bulk cargoes. Its south quay is 318 meters long with alongside depths from 8.2 meters to 10.5 meters, and its north quay is 348 meters long with alongside depths from 7 meters to 9.5 meters. The wharf has a crane and conveyors for handling bulk cargoes. The south quay is used for both imports and exports, and the north quay is dedicated to exports, including containerized exports. Another multipurpose wharf, wharf C is 280 meters long with alongside depths from 11.9 meters to 14.9 meters.
The port handles approximately 4.5 million tons of cargo including 156,300TEU annually. The main cargoes handled include general cargo, containers, solid and liquid bulk cargo and refrigerated cargo.
