MSC, Mediterranean Shipping Co., is one of the largest ocean carriers in the world. A few months earlier, MSC announced its new plan to march into the air cargo market to boost consumer confidence. And recently, it has decided to move up its schedule to officially launch air freight services.
In the context of stretched container capacity, disruptions in sea shipping, port congestion, and port labor strike, the shifts from maritime transportation to air cargo freight appear to be urgent. Giant ocean carriers like Maersk and CMA CGM have been involved in the air cargo market for a long time.
According to the schedule notice on the website of MSC, it is expected that one Boeing 777 freighter will operate the around-the-world services in December. MSC lease a total of four Boeing 777 freighters from Atlas Air and the rest will be delivered in 2023.
The MSC air shipping route is planned to be:
from Mexico City (MEX), Indianapolis (IND), and then to Frankfurt (HHN), Germany (twice a week)
from Germany, Hong Kong (HKG), Anchorage, Alaska, and then to Mexico City
(once a week)
