A container number is a unique alpha-numeric combination of four letters and seven numbers used for identifying containers internationally. Container numbers are assigned by the International Standards Organization (ISO) through the Bureau International des Containers (BIC). They are printed on three spots of each freight container: one on the doors end, one on the side wall and one on the top of the container.
