Petrozavodsk Airport (IATA code: PES, ICAO code: ULPB) is a joint civil-military airport, serving Petrozavodsk, the capital city of the Republic of Karelia, Russia. Located 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) northwest of Petrozavodsk in Besovets, Shuya Rural Settlement (municipality), it is a minor airfield with 12 parking stands and a small amount of tarmac space.
The airport intended to increase airport traffic to about 300,000 passengers per year to ensure the airport balances its budget. Therefore, construction on new administrative buildings and an international passenger terminal was planned to start in the summer of 2016, according to an agreement signed by the administration of Karelia and the company Aeroinvest. The concept design for a terminal building with a capacity of 150 passengers per hour was completed in January 2016. Before the completion of the terminal building, the original terminal building continued to be in service.
